Weekend Away

The ocean was calling to me...

This past weekend I took a much deserved break and went off to play at the beach. The weather was great and we had a great view from our room. We stayed at an older motel to save on money and the room had a kitchen in which was very nice.
I made sure to take along plenty of food so that I wouldn’t have to worry about eating out. The little beach town where we stayed is not known for being vegan-friendly. Before leaving town I did a HappyCow search to find vegan restaurants in the area and three came up. However, when we got into town one of the restaurants had gone out of business.
The first night we were there we decided to try out a Thai restaurant on the list. When we got to the restaurant there were only 4 people in the restaurant. We waited at the sign that said “Please Wait To Be Seated” and no one seated us. The waiter walked by us a couple of times and didn’t even acknowledge us. So after waiting a few minutes we walked out.
We drove down the street a couple of miles to another place on our list called Collage Foods and were welcomed in and made to feel at home. The owner is the cook and she had great choices on the menu. We ended up getting the Cashew Loaf with Mushroom Gravy. It was very good! We had a choice of sides and I chose quinoa and local organic Swiss Chard. For dessert I had the Vegan Chocolate pudding. Yum!! It was made with hazelnuts, raw cocoa, and agave. Very thick and satisfying. If you ever visit Lincoln City, Oregon please stop by Collage Foods and eat. I’m sure you will find them just as friendly as we did and the food was great.
One day we decided to visit the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse and climbed the 144 steps to the top. We also poked around in the tide pools and walked on the beach it was a very enjoyable and relaxing.
